Arne Slot Asserts He Feels Secure and Retains The Club's Support Following PSV Eindhoven Defeat
Arne Slot conceded that it's expected for doubts to be asked about his future after another convincing defeat versus PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds suffered their 9th loss in 12 games, representing the club's worst streak since being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were outplayed by the Dutch league title holders on a difficult night at Anfield.
“I am feeling safe, I'm fine, I have got a lot of support from above,” Slot commented.
“It's important to turn it around and secure a win naturally but if you are coaching a team and struggling then it's expected that questions are asked.”
He noted, “I'm comfortable with my position. This isn't the initial instance I've found myself in a tough spot but it's crucial that we changed our fortunes.”
Discussions with The Board
When asked to provide details on his conversations with the Liverpool hierarchy, the head coach revealed:
“We communicate frequently. They are supportive to the team and to me and we have those conversations but they aren't calling me constantly of the day to say they back me.”
He further stated, “Through standard exchanges I feel the trust. But I haven’t spoken to them after this match yet so we'll see.”
Persistent Failings and Player Reaction
Slot expressed regret over familiar failings from his squad in their European defeat, namely poor finishing and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, player Jones was more forthright in his evaluation of the team's situation.
“I haven't got the answers. Frankly, I don’t. I’m saying that to everybody,” Jones said.
“It is unacceptable. I don’t even need to wait to consider it. I’m past getting mad inside. I've reached the stage currently where I just don’t have the words.”
He continued, “It’s hard because I’m playing for the side I follow. I'm a supporter, and I’ve seen Liverpool for years.”
“In a long, long time, I haven’t experienced a Reds side experiencing a period like this with results this poor.”
Jones stated, “But we continue to wear the emblem on our shirts. And until it is taken away, we’re always going to compete.”
“Our aim is to help the side back to the top, prove once more what this club is about and why it's known as the top club in the world.”
“But right now, we're in trouble and it needs to change.”
