Followers Demand Arrest of Man Who Grabbed Ariana Grande
Passionate supporters of the pop star are demanding that a individual who jumped a barrier and seized the actress during yesterday's Wicked: For Good launch be detained or deported from Singapore.
A viral footage depicts the Australian man shoving aside camera operators and rushing toward Grande while the actors made its way down a yellow carpet flanked by onlookers.
Co-star Cynthia Erivo immediately guided the shocked actress away from Mr Wen, who was observed being led away of the premiere by security officers.
Mr Wen stated on Instagram Thursday evening that he was "free after being taken in", though legal records revealed that he was due to appear on the next day. It is not clear if he was formally accused.
History of Disruptions
This is not the first time for Mr Wen, who labels himself a "Controversial Figure", has crashed a performance. His Instagram profile contains clips of him disrupting other high-profile occasions, including rushing the platform at Katy Perry's Sydney concert in recently and in a like fashion during The Chainsmokers performance in the city last December.
"Steps should be implemented enforced against him as this is obviously a criminal offence," commented an Instagram user, in a reply to a video Mr Wen posted of his act.
"You've done this repeatedly... how are you not behind bars?" one Instagram user remarked.
Followers Voice Worry Over Ariana's Well-being
Many fans accused Mr Wen for "causing further distress" Grande, who had discussed suffering from trauma-related anxiety after a devastating incident at the finale of her May 2017 show in Manchester, killing 22 people and harming many.
"The star has endured numerous terrifying experiences... including the Manchester tragedy, and you believed breaching security was amusing?" wrote a further response on Instagram.
Some fans also criticised event staff at the Thursday event for not being adequately prepared; while different individuals demanded social media platforms to ban Mr Wen's uploads.
Reaction and Event Details
In videos shared widely, Grande looked surprised when she was approached by the individual. Her co-stars Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be spotted comforting her while Mr Wen was escorted away by staff.
Grande has not issued a statement on the situation, and the premiere activities carried on uninterrupted.
Hundreds of fans had gathered in a sea of green and pink at the Wicked: For Good regional launch in a Singapore shopping center, including some who had waited for as long as eight hours before it started.
The movie, to be premiered on November 21, is the sequel of a two-film version of the acclaimed theatrical production Wicked, which focuses on the unexpected relationship between two contrasting sorceresses.
The musical itself is a adaptation of the twentieth-century story The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who plays the benevolent sorceress Glinda, was adorned in a rosé sparkling outfit at the event while Erivo, who portrays the wicked witch, wore a black tube gown decorated with roses.
They were joined by fellow actor Jeff Goldblum.
The first movie, Wicked, was the highest-grossing film of 2024 in the UK, and scored ten Oscar nominations, winning several for outstanding attire and set decoration.
