Manchester United Set to Sign Germany Forward Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich
Manchester United are finalising sealing the deal for prolific German forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move from Bayern Munich.
A Major Signing for United
Schüller, who has half a year left on her contract, is known as a consistent goalscorer for her club and the national team. Having scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. This signing will be seen as a marquee coup for the WSL team.
Departure from Bayern has been anticipated since she was seen fighting back tears while thanking the club's supporters following a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
Reports in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its top forwards. Per multiple sources, all the paperwork for the transfer have now been completed.
Consistent Goal Threat to Boost the Forward Line
The 28-year-old’s arrival should represent a major uplift to the team's forward line. She has been highly consistent with her finishing in the Bundesliga.
- For seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the last term, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She won the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Building Momentum at Carrington
Securing Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when the club seem to be gathering momentum.
Recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the winter break has seen additional business:
- The acquisition of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The new deal for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since arriving in 2023.
Regarding Miyazawa’s extension, a club official commented: “Miyazawa is now a critical part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill allows her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”
The new defender, having joined from a side from the American league, added: “You can sense how much the club have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
