McLaren's Lando Norris Claims First Formula One Drivers' Crown in Yas Marina Despite Max Verstappen's Race Victory.

In a display of brave driving, the McLaren driver has won his debut Formula One world championship by achieving a podium finish at the Yas Marina race. Third place was enough for the British driver, even though Red Bull's Max Verstappen took the victory and his McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri came home in second.

Norris closed out his title with ruthless focus to take the crown that had been within reach but eluded him as McLaren found themselves floundering at the previous two rounds. These included a DSQ in Las Vegas and then an questionable strategy call in Qatar.

As Norris was crowned the first British driver to win the title since Lewis Hamilton in 2020, the difference in fortunes between the two was pronounced. While the new generation fought for the title, Hamilton, the veteran, could only finish eighth place in Abu Dhabi, a disappointing ending to a difficult season with Ferrari.

His first season with the Scuderia had been greeted with excitement but produced what was easily his worst season ever, finishing sixth in the championship without a podium. He has appeared jaded in the final rounds and will look to reset over the off-season.
