The Blue Jays Earn Fall Classic Matchup Against defending champion Dodgers

George Springer celebrating

George Springer was instrumental for the Houston Astros claiming the World Series in 2017.

The Toronto Blue Jays reached their first World Series following 1993 by beating the Mariners in the decisive seventh game of the ALCS.

Trailing by two runs, outfielder George Springer hit a three-run blast in the seventh inning, propelling the Toronto squad in MLB to a four games to three win in the best-of-seven series. Awaiting them are the defending champions, the team that is the reigning title, in the upcoming championship.

"I'm just so happy for everyone here, our city, our country," said Springer, an integral part of the Astros team that secured the 2017 championship. "This is such an amazing experience."

The veteran has now slugged twenty-three playoff homers, making him third in history after Ramirez (29) and Altuve (27).

"I can't think of another player anywhere that I want up in that spot except for him with his post-season brilliance," noted Schneider.

The Mariners, who had led the series 2-0 and 3-2, remain the one club that has never reached in a championship series.

Wilson said "there's no question that it hurts" after his team's loss at their home ballpark, but praised their performance this season.

"This is a unique group. Unfortunately that we ended up on the unsuccessful side of this game," he remarked.

Toronto's team claimed the World Series on both previous visits in the early 90s, and will welcome the Dodgers in the opener on this Friday.
