The Duke of York gives up his designation as the Duke.
He is surrendering his designations, such as the the Duke, he has announced in a personal statement.
He has been under increasing pressure over his associations with convicted criminal the financier, with requests for the Palace to take steps against him.
That now looks to have led to the figure deciding to voluntarily return his honors and to surrender participation of the Order of the Garter.
In his announcement he said he continued to "firmly dispute the claims against me".
"In discussion with the monarch, and my close and broader family, we have agreed the ongoing claims about me divert from the duties of His Majesty and the Royal Family," said a statement from him.
"I have decided, as I always have, to put my responsibility to my family and country first.
"I uphold my decision five years ago to step back from public life.
"With the monarch's agreement, we believe I must now go a further step. I will therefore no longer hold my honor or the distinctions which have been conferred upon me. As I have said previously, I vigorously deny the accusations against me."
Prince Andrew has faced a range of scandals, including a court case he settled with the plaintiff, doubts about his finances and his association with an alleged Chinese spy.
He will stay a prince - but will stop to be the the Duke, a honor received from his the late Queen, the former monarch.
The prince had already ceased to be a "participating figure" and had lost the use of his HRH title and no longer participated at state occasions. His role now will be even more reduced.
His previous partner will be known as Ferguson and no longer York's Duchess, but their daughters will persist to have the designation of princesses.
He has encountered intense examination over his connections with disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein, more in recent times featuring inquiries about when he had truly cut off ties.
In his media discussion, Prince Andrew had said that he had cut off all connections with Epstein after they had been photographed together in New York in late 2010.
But correspondence sent in early 2011 later emerged suggesting that he had privately remained in contact with him, for example sending a communication: "Remain connected and we'll play some more soon!"
There had been growing frustration in the monarchy at the controversies that persisted to envelop the figure.
In the coming days a late publication by Giuffre will be issued which is anticipated to bring further focus on the royal's association with Ms Giuffre and the financier.
