The Showrunner Reveals He Has an Idea of How His Sci-Fi Series Will End... For Now.
Vince Gilligan could not have predicted that his new science-fiction series would turn into a massive hit. “God bless the fans,” Gilligan says. “It was unexpected the show being as talked about as it is, and it makes me overjoyed.”
With the first season of the popular sci-fi show reaching its finale—and a second season already in development—Gilligan and his team opened up about the fan response and whether it will impact the storyline of Pluribus.
About the Tremendous Fan Response
Anyone might to get sidetracked by the rampant praise and fan theories regarding Pluribus. He is making a conscious effort to steer clear of all that.
“It feels like constantly eating hot fudge sundaes and being laughing uncontrollably,” he explains. “It's the greatest thing, but I learn of it from others, and that's on purpose. I have never looked myself up on the internet, nor do I ever intend to. Not because I don't care. It's a deep trap I know I would fall into and then I'd be never leaving the house from the hardware store and I'd be stuck in my living room.”
Despite trying to stay away, there’s it's impossible to ignore the overwhelmingly positive response to the series. The most practical strategy is to accept it graciously and try not to let it alter the course of the show.
“We make no attempt to tailor anything,” says Alison Tatlock. “The plot we develop is not impacted by online forums.”
“We prefer to keep our noses to the grindstone,” he chimes in.
The Central Mystery: Will the creator Know the Finale of Pluribus?
So if the writers aren't taking cues by audience theories, does it imply they already know how Pluribus will reach its endpoint? The answer is yes… in a way.
“We have some compelling concepts about the ultimate destination,” Gilligan reveals. “but we are always ready to abandon a decent plan for a more brilliant plan. That philosophy has guided us in good stead on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We throw stuff out when we conceive of something superior and I expect we'll continue doing that.”
On the other hand, if they hit a wall, director and writer Gordon Smith has a rather amusing idea to fall back on.
“My recurring proposal is that it's all in a snow globe, and that we'll zoom out in the finale and that's where they've been all along,” he says humorously, “but nobody's taking me up on that.”
Of course, why mess with the legendary finales?
“I want Carol to open her eyes next to Bob Newhart,” Gilligan adds, smiling.
