The British government is prepared to move forward with utilizing the full worth of frozen Russian holdings to bolster Ukraine's military campaign, Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has announced.
In a collective announcement, the heads of state of the UK, the French Republic, and Germany asserted that this coordinated action would heighten pressure on Russia's leader Vladimir Putin and compel Moscow to engage in negotiations.
They clarified that the move would be carried out in close cooperation with the United States.
UK penalties have frozen more than £25bn of Russia's funds since the Russian government began its full-scale invasion against Ukraine in 2022. But, previously, resources sent to the Ukrainian government using Russian assets had solely been taken from gains and dividends generated on them.
Sir Keir told President Volodymyr Zelensky that the United Kingdom, the French Republic, and the Federal Republic of Germany were united in their desire to advance efforts toward utilizing the total worth of the frozen Russian sovereign assets to end the war.
He added that further sanctions soon would apply more pressure on Russia.
This declaration is subsequent to European Union representatives gathered in Copenhagen last week to consider using immobilized Russia's assets for a €140bn financial aid to the Ukrainian nation.
Recently, President Donald Trump urged Group of Seven partners to confiscate or employ frozen Russia's holdings, as reported by media sources.
The total of frozen Russia's funds in the EU is calculated to be nearly €211bn.
President Zelensky urges Britain's Sir Keir Starmer to join the Purl program
Russia carried out extensive missile and drone strikes throughout the Ukrainian territory on that day, leading to power cuts in large parts of Ukraine's capital, the city, and several other zones.
Two people were fatally injured and at least 20 people were injured in the strike, authorities in Ukraine reported.
In a update on an online platform subsequent to the strike, Zelensky wrote that the premeditated assault targeted civilian and energy infrastructure.
"What's needed is not just talk but concrete steps - from the America, Europe, and the seven nations - in providing air defence systems and implementing penalties," he wrote.
"Every sanction decision diminishes the Russian war effort," Zelensky declared, in a separate post.
Additionally that day, Zelensky told reporters he would press Sir Keir to enter the PURL program, under which alliance members acquire weapons from the US to provide to the Ukrainian forces.
While commending the UK's consistent assistance for Ukraine, he remarked it should send a clear signal that it would participate in the system, as well as apply additional restrictions on Moscow.
